COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Baseball certified athletic trainer Josh Cohen was named to the staff of the 2015 18U National Team, USA Baseball announced on Thursday.
In the upcoming summer, the squad will look to defend the 18U National Team's gold medal from the 2013 WBSC 18U/'AAA' World Cup, when it competes in the 2015 WBSCA 18/'AAA' Word Cup in Nishinomiya, Japan. The 18U National Team has won gold medals in each of the last four years, including back-to-back World Cups in 2012 and 2013.
The staff will be led by head coach Glenn Cecchini, the head coach at Barbe (La.) High School and joined by assistant coaches David Eckstein, Greg Moore and Eric Kibler.
Cohen is in his 10th season as the athletic trainer for the Texas A&M Baseball team. He is known for the wealth of baseball-specific sports medicine knowledge and experience he brings to the Aggie baseball team. Prior to his arrival in College Station, he worked with A&M head coach Rob Childress as the head baseball athletic trainer at Nebraska for two seasons. Before that, Cohen gained professional baseball experience by working as an athletic trainer in both the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations.
The Old Tappan, New Jersey native served as a volunteer emergency medical technician in his hometown for six years. He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and psychology from The College of William & Mary and went on to receive his master's degree from Nebraska while working with the Husker football and baseball programs.
Cohen is a nationally certified and state licensed athletic trainer and is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association.
