Soccer Commemorates College Cup Campaign with Awards Banquet

COLLEGE STATION, Texas --- After an historic season in which the Aggies made their first-ever College Cup appearance and captured their second consecutive SEC Double, Texas A&M Soccer held its annual awards banquet Saturday evening at the Cox Diamond Club at Blue Bell Park.

Highlighting the awards portion of the banquet were the positional Most Valuable Player honors bestowed upon two players with leading scorer and assists leader Kelley Monogue earning Offensive MVP and Midfield MVP and Meghan Streight garnering Defensive MVP.

McKayla Paulson garnered the Newcomer Award as Mikaela Harvey and Kristi Leonard were given accolades for their attitudes with the 12th Man Award and Spirit of Aggieland Award, respectively.

Bianca Brinson was named the squad's Most Improved Player for her brilliant senior campaign while Allie Bailey acquired two awards, the Maximum Performance Award and the Perseverance Award for her tenacity on the field.

The event also honored athletes and staff in several athletic and academic areas for the 2014 season. Awards included recognition from various soccer media organizations and other outlets apart from Texas A&M University.

In 2014, the team captured the SEC regular-season title and won the SEC Tournament title, becoming the first team to earn the SEC Double in back-to-back years since Florida in 2001. The Aggies earned a bid to their 20^th consecutive NCAA tournament, advancing to the Final Four before falling to Virginia. A&M finished the season ranked fifth in the nation with a 22-3-2 record (9-1-1 SEC).
