Women's Basketball Named Midseason Top 20 Seed By Selection Committee

If the season ended today, Texas A&M's women's basketball team would be one of the nation's top 20 seeds, as announced by the NCAA Women's Basketball Selection Committee. The 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship will utilize a hosting model that will allow the top 16 seeds, who meet championship hosting requirements, to host first- and second-round games on March 20-23.

The Aggies are joined by fellow SEC teams Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee in the committee's Top 20. Inclusion on the list does not guarantee an NCAA Tournament berth or hosting duties—while schools not on the list can still earn the right to host, if the remainder of their season merits inclusion.

Connecticut, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Tennessee were named the committee's Top Four seeds as of today. The remaining 16 teams were listed in alphabetical order.

The Aggies (18-6, 6-4 SEC) have won 14 straight home games, and are looking for their 10th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Texas A&M has started the NCAA Tournament at Reed Arena in each of the previous three seasons, but this is the first year in that stretch where First and Second Round hosts have been determined by seed.

Texas A&M hosts Arkansas at 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 12 on SEC Network. Selection Monday will take place at 6 p.m. on March 16 on ESPN.
