Aggies head to SEC Swimming & Diving

The Texas A&M men's and women's swimming and diving teams will battle for conference supremacy at the 2015 Southeastern Conference Championships Tuesday through Saturday at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center on the Auburn University campus.

AUBURN, Ala. – The Texas A&M men's and women's swimming and diving teams will battle for conference supremacy at the 2015 Southeastern Conference Championships Tuesday through Saturday at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center on the Auburn University campus.  

Getting Started …

·        The SEC Championships get underway on Tuesday with the diving preliminaries -- the men's 1m dive at 11 a.m. and the women's 3m dive at 2 p.m. Tuesday's swimming and diving finals begin at 5:30 p.m.

·        For the remainder of the Championships, the morning preliminary session starts at 10 a.m. and the evening finals session begins at 6 p.m.

 

In the Rankings …

·        In the most recent editions of the College Swim Coaches Association of America Div. I Team Rankings, the Aggie women are ranked No. 5 and the A&M men's squad stand at No. 14.

·        The women's poll contains seven teams from the SEC: No. 2 Georgia, No. 4 Florida, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 7 Auburn, No. 10 Tennessee, No. 18 Missouri and No. 19 LSU.

·        The men's poll has six teams from the SEC: No. 1 Florida, No. 5 Auburn, No. 8 Georgia, No. 13 Tennessee, No. 14 Texas A&M and No. 17 Missouri.

 

Last Year at SECs …

·        The Aggie women placed second and the men's squad was seventh at the 2014 SEC Championships in Athens, Ga.

·        The women's squad won four individual races and a relay. 2014 seniors Breeja Larson swept the 100/200 breaststroke, Cammile Adams won the 200 fly and Paige Miller won the 100 backstroke. The foursome of Miller, Larson, 2014 senior Caroline McElhany and current senior Lili Ibanez won the 400 medley relay. Larson earned SEC Swimmer of the Meet honors.

·        The men's team posted the first two SEC individual wins since joining the league in 2012 when current senior Ford McLiney won the 3m dive and the platform dive. McLiney was named the SEC Diver of the Meet in 2014.

 

Recapping the Dual Meet Season…

·        Women's Team: The Aggies were undefeated for the second straight year with a perfect 9-0 record, which included wins over No. 6 Texas, No. 10 Tennessee, No. 19 LSU (current rankings). The Aggies posted four wins over SEC foes vs. Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama and LSU. The Aggies also placed first in the Art Adamson Invitational last fall in College Station, finishing ahead of No. 3 Stanford, LSU, Boise State, Arizona State, SMU, Grand Canyon and TCU in the final standings.

·        Men's Team: The Aggie men were 6-3 in dual meets with wins over LSU, SMU, Missouri State, Incarnate Word, Florida Atlantic and Indian River State College. The Aggies' schedule included two teams that are ranked in the current CSCAA poll: No. 2 Texas and No. 13 Tennessee.

 

In the Psych Sheet (Women's Top 16)

·        The Aggie women have 41 swimmers and divers ranked among the top 16 qualifiers in the 2015 Championships “psych sheet.”

·        Two Aggie swimmers entered the meet with top seeds – senior Sarah Henry in the 400 IM and freshman Bethany Galat in the 200 IM.

·        Senior Luke Shaw leads the way among the Aggie swimmers with three top 16 appearances on the psych sheet in the 100 and 200 free and the 100 fly.
