Aggies Top McNeese State and Texas State in Exhibitions

The Texas A&M Aggies were triumphant in a pair of 7-v-7 exhibition matches at Ellis Field on Saturday. The Maroon and White beat McNeese State, 4-2, in the morning match and toppled Texas State, 7-1, in the afternoon affair.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies were triumphant in a pair of 7-v-7 exhibition matches at Ellis Field on Saturday. The Maroon and White beat McNeese State, 4-2, in the morning match and toppled Texas State, 7-1, in the afternoon affair.

For the day, Mikaela Harvey led A&M with four goals and four assists. Ana Cruz tallied three goals, Grace Wright added two goals and one assist. Haley Pounds chipped in with one goal and three assists and Kristi Leonard notched one goal and one assist. Stephanie Malherbe and Taylor Saucier each contributed an assist.

Playing 22-minute halves, A&M jumped out to a 1-0 lead over McNeese State midway through the first half when Harvey notched an unassisted goal. Wright scored on an assist from Leonard to give A&M a 2-0 advantage at the intermission.

McNeese State scored just over a minute into the second half, but it took the Aggies less than 40 seconds to answer as Cruz gave A&M a 3-1 edge with assists from Pounds and Harvey. After McNeese State responded to cut the gap to one run, Pounds scored with 1:35 remaining in the match on an assist from Harvey to give A&M the 4-2 edge.

The Aggies owned advantages in the offensive numbers against McNeese State, including 20-6 in shots, 12-4 in shots-on-goal and 3-1 in corner kicks.

Against Texas State, Cruz scored in the sixth minute of action on an assist from Harvey and there was no looking back. Before the intermission, Harvey registered two goals and Cruz added another to give A&M a comfortable lead.

Harvey, Leonard and Wright scored goals in the second half.

Texas A&M once again dominated the offensive numbers against Texas State, including 25-11 in shots, 15-6 in shots-on-goal and 7-2 in corner kicks.

The Aggies return to action on March 7 when they travel to San Marcos for a day of 8-v-8 action hosted by Texas State.
