BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference unveiled its men's basketball coaches' postseason awards Tuesday and Texas A&M was represented by junior Danuel House on the first team as well as junior Jalen Jones on the second team.
During his first season in Aggieland after transferring from the University of Houston, House emerged as one of the SEC's most explosive and consistent scorers. The Fresno, Texas, native finished the regular season ranking fourth in the SEC by scoring 16.2 points per league contest. Additionally, during SEC play, House ranks second in the league, averaging 2.7 3-pointers made per game while also ranking third in 3-point shooting at 41.1 percent.
For the entire season, House paces the Aggies in scoring at 14.8 points per game while shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond 3-point range. He was named SEC Player of the Week on Feb. 2 after averaging 17.5 points and shooting 72.7 percent from 3-point range during wins at Auburn and at home vs. Vanderbilt.
Jones, meanwhile, is also in his first season at Texas A&M after transferring from SMU last December and has made a major impact on the program. The 6-foot-7 guard/forward is averaging 13.6 points and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds this season while sharing the top spot, alongside House, with 16 blocks this season.
The Dallas native has stood out as a reliable scorer, reaching double-digit points in 23 of 28 games played this season, including a pair of double-double showings - Nov. 21 vs the College of Charleston and on Feb. 24 at Arkansas.
Kentucky's John Calipari earned SEC Coach of the Year honors while Arkansas sophomore Bobby Portis was selected the SEC Player of the Year by the league's coaches. Alabama's Levi Randolph earned SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Kentucky's Willie Cauley-Stein was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Karl-Anthony Towns was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year and Devin Booker was voted SEC Sixth Man of the Year.
First-team and second-team All-SEC honorees, All-Freshman team, All-Defensive team, along with Player, Coach and Freshman, Defensive, Sixth-Man and Scholar-Athlete of the Year were chosen by the league's 14 coaches. Ties were not broken.
