Texas A&M?s Henschel wins spot at NCAAs

Tyler Henschel, from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, grabbed one of the final qualifying spots at the zone qualifier with a 12-dive score of 721.15.

IOWA CITY, Iowa --- Texas A&M redshirt freshman diver Tyler Henschel earned his spot at the 2015 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships with a sixth-place finish in the platform dive at the Zone D Diving Championships on Wednesday at the University of Iowa.

Henschel, from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, grabbed one of the final qualifying spots at the zone qualifier with a 12-dive score of 721.15. Only the top seven finishers in the platform dive received NCAA berths. Because Henschel also finished in the top 12 of the one- and three-meter dives earlier at Zones, he will be able to compete in all three dives at the NCAA Championships in Iowa City on March 26-28.

Henschel earned Southeastern Conference Diver of the Week honors twice during his debut season in 2014-15, and he posted a trio of top nine finishes at the SEC Championships last month, including a fifth-place finish in the platform dive.
