Aggies in Contention after Two Rounds at Talis Park

After 36 holes of competition at Talis Park Golf Club on Sunday, the Texas A&M men's golf team sits in fourth place and just seven shots off the top spot on the Talis Park Challenge leaderboard.

NAPLES, Fla. – After 36 holes of competition at Talis Park Golf Club on Sunday, the Texas A&M men's golf team sits in fourth place and just seven shots off the top spot on the Talis Park Challenge leaderboard.

Individually, Aggie junior Adrià Arnaus (66-69=135, -7) sits atop the player standings in a three-way tie for first at seven-under par. The Barcelona, Spain, native opened the tournament by carding a 66 during the morning round which stood out as the lowest score by any player in the field through two rounds.

“Adria played incredible, once again, today,” A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “He was in total control almost the entire day. Except for an approach shot on No. 1 where he misjudged the wind, he was virtually flawless. He's got a great chance to win the tournament.”

Texas A&M (284-283=567, -1) will enter Monday's final 18 holes attempting to make up a seven-stroke deficit on team leader Vanderbilt, which sits at eight-under par.

“Overall, it was a pretty good day,” Higgins added. “We're a little disappointed because we leaked some oil coming in. We played really well for 30 to 32 holes. I don't know if we got tired or fatigued, it was 90 degrees and really humid out there today, but it led to some uncharacteristic mistakes from some guys. We're still in great position. If we can keep the ball dry and limit our putts, I think we'll have a great chance to win tomorrow.”

Freshman Andrew Paysse (73-70=143, +1) owns a spot just outside the top-20, sitting in a tie for 21st at one-over par. Fellow rookie Cameron Champ (71-75=146, +4) holds a share of 36th with senior Greg Yates (78-69=147, +5) just one shot back in 42nd after carding a two-under 69 during his second turn on the course.

Monday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT).
