GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Texas A&M senior swimmer Emily Neubert (Waco, Texas) received the prestigious ELITE 89 Award today at the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The ELITE 89, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 89 championships.
Neubert, from Waco Midway High School, becomes the third Texas A&M swimmer to win the award in the last six years, joining 2010 winner Ella Doerge and 2011 winner Alyssa Conner. Neubert qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 50 freestyle.
Neubert has already earned a pair of undergraduate degrees in business honors and management information systems at Texas A&M while carrying a perfect 4.0. Currently, she is well on her way to completing her master's in economics.
