Aggies Dominate in 7-on-7 Exhibitions

The Texas A&M Aggies dominated in a pair of 7-on-7 matches Saturday afternoon on Ellis Field. The Maroon and White toppled Lamar 8-0 to start the day and finished with a 7-2 win over Sam Houston State.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies dominated in a pair of 7-on-7 matches Saturday afternoon on Ellis Field. The Maroon and White toppled Lamar 8-0 to start the day and finished with a 7-2 win over Sam Houston State.

For the day, Mikaela Harvey led the squad with five goals and two assists. Karlie Mueller added three goals and one assist. Others with multiple tallies on the day included Haley Pounds with two goals, Ana Cruz with one goal and two assists and Ashlynn Harryman with one goal and one assist.

The Aggies overwhelmed Lamar in the opener, outscoring shooting the Cardinals 28-8, including 18-4 in shots-on-goal. Mueller started the scoring, followed Stephanie Malherbe, Pounds and Harryman, all with unassisted goals to take a 4-0 lead. Cruz then set up goals by Sarah Shaw and Harvey. The cavalcade of goals was capped off with Harvey assisting Cruz and Mueller assisting Harvey.

The Maroon and White were nearly as overwhelming against Sam Houston State, outshooting the Bearkats 22-11, including 13-9 in shots-on-goal. After Pounds opened up with an unassisted goal, Harvey played a part in the five of the next six scores. The sophomore notched the second, fourth and sixth goals and set up scores by Pounds and Mueller.

The Aggies have two more match dates on the spring schedule, including April 4 and April 7, both at Ellis Field.
