Catanzariti Named Back-to-Back-to-Back SEC Freshman of the Week

For the third consecutive week, Texas A&M's AJ Catanzariti was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday morning.

COLLEGE STATION – For the third consecutive week, Texas A&M's AJ Catanzariti was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday morning.

Catanzariti helped lead the Aggies to a perfect 3-0 record last week by defeating Rice, Auburn and then 16th-ranked Florida all in spectacular 4-0 fashion.

The Pittsburgh native ran his singles win streak to 11 matches, last tasting defeat over a month ago. During the streak, the freshman has only dropped four sets winning in convincing fashion in third sets over opponents from South Carolina (6-0), Mississippi State (6-0), UTSA (6-3) and Florida (6-2). The rookie was dominant in matches against Rice and Auburn, dropping just four games to Adam Gustafsson of Rice and six games to Joseph Van Dooren of Auburn.

Sunday's doubles win over No. 62 Landert & Wardell of Florida was the first ranked win for Catanzariti and fellow-freshman Arthur Rinderknech. The freshman phenoms are on a four-match doubles win streak, helping the Aggies capture the doubles point in seven straight matches.

Catanzariti leads the Aggies with a 32-8 singles mark on the year, including a 15-3 mark in dual matches. The freshman also boasts a team-best 9-1 mark against SEC foes. In doubles play, Catanzariti paces the Aggies with 15 dual match wins, including a team-best 9-2 league mark alongside Rinderknech.

Spearheading the potent freshman class during the Aggies current nine-match win streak, first-year Aggies are a perfect 18-0 in singles matches during the streak with Catanzariti pacing the freshman group at 8-0 in that span.

The Aggies will stay on the road for their final two regular season matches, facing No. 25 LSU in Baton Rouge Thursday at 3 p.m. followed a trip to Fort Worth to take on No. 10 TCU Saturday at 1 p.m.
