COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Led by four first-team selections, the Texas A&M equestrian team placed 16 student-athletes on National Collegiate Equestrian Association Academic Teams, the NCEA announced today.
The Aggies are represented on the NCEA Academic First Team by juniors Hannah Jechow, Marlena Parker and Logan Pluhar and senior Laura Sumrall. Juniors Carolyn Day and Hannah Williams and sophomores Kaci Fisher and Rachel Lucht were named to the NCEA Academic Second Team. Senior Haley Buchmiller and sophomore Anna Rea took NCEA Academic Honorable Mention honors.
Five more Aggies were selected to the NCEA Academic Honor Roll: senior Annie Bean, sophomore Ashley Corona, sophomore Brogan Horton, senior Paige Linne, junior Gabrielle Ploth and sophomore Kimberly Saul.
To qualify for the Academic first team, a rider must have competed in 70 percent of her team's meets and must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5. To qualify for the Academic second team, a rider must have competed in 60 percent of her team's meets, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25. To earn honorable mention Academic honors, a rider must have participated in 50 percent of her team's meets and must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
The NCEA Academic Honor Roll recognizes the top academic student-athletes who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25.
The 4th-seeded Texas A&M equestrian team travels to Waco April 16-18 for the NCEA Championships at the Extraco Events Center. The Aggies will face the winner of No. 5 seed Auburn and No. 12 seed UT-Martin in the quarterfinals after earning a bye in the first round.
