ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The postseason begins for the Aggie men's golf team this weekend as Texas A&M sets its sights on a conference title at the 2015 SEC Championship which will be held at Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course.
“I think we're playing our best golf of the year right now,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “Everyone has had some really nice rounds in the last month. It's just a matter of everybody putting that together at one time and if we can do that we've got a great chance.”
Sea Island Golf Club, which will host the SEC Championship for the 15th year, has been named the No. 4 golf resort in the United States and hosted multiple USGA events in addition to the PGA Tour's McGladrey Classic. The par-70, 7,055-yard Seaside Course was named one of the top 100 courses in the U.S. by Golf Digest and has been the site of the SEC Championship and since 2010 after also seeing a conference champion crowned on it from 2001-07.
The strength of the conference will be on display at the event as nine of the 14 schools (No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 LSU, No. 15 Auburn, No. 25 Alabama, No. 30 Arkansas, No. 34 Georgia, No. 37 Florida and No. 39 Texas A&M) competing in the event appear in the top 40 of the April 15 edition of the GolfStat Relative Rankings.
“Last year, 10 teams made it to the national championship out of the SEC, so the league is loaded and will be really good again,” Higgins added. “We're going to have our hands full, but I think we can compete with anybody in the league so we're looking forward to it.”
Representing the Aggies in the Peach State are senior Greg Yates, juniors Adrià Arnaus, Ben Crancer and Andrew Lister as well as freshman Andrew Paysse.
Texas A&M will be paired alongside golfers from Florida and Georgia during Friday's opening round and begin teeing off from No. 1 at 9:10 a.m. (CT)
Live scoring for the event will be available at GolfStat.com and on Twitter at @AggieMensGolf.
