Texas A&M Men's Golf in 11th after SEC Day #1

The Texas A&M men's golf team sits in 11th place Friday after the opening 18 holes of the 2015 SEC Championship at Sea Island Golf Club.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Texas A&M men's golf team sits in 11th place after the opening 18 holes of the 2015 SEC Championship at Sea Island Golf Club.

The Aggies shot a six-over par 286 on Friday morning and will enter Saturday's second round looking up at first-place Alabama which opened with a round of 11-under par. LSU (-6), Auburn (-5), South Carolina (-5) and Vanderbilt (-4) round out the top five spots in the team standings.

"I think the guys are pretty disappointed after the first round," head coach J.T. Higgins said. "There's a lot of golf left and we've got a job to do so we're going to get after it tomorrow."

Junior Ben Crancer stands out as the highest-ranking Aggie on the individual leaderboard, owning a share of 23rd place at even par, while senior Greg Yates (71, +1) is a shot back of Crancer in 34th.

"We talked last night about keeping the ball in play off the tee and finishing strong," Higgins added. "We had five balls in the water in the first four holes and I'm really proud of our guys for overcoming that to get it back to one-under through 12 holes. We were in really solid position to have a good finish but we played the last six holes seven-over. Good teams just can't get away with that. In a tournament like this where everybody is good and competing really hard, you've got to finish off the round and we just didn't get that done today. There are 36 holes left so we're going to have to play some terrific golf just to get in the mix."

The SEC Championship resumes Saturday morning with the Aggies stepping to the No. 10 tee box beginning at 8:00 a.m. (CT). Live scoring for the event will be available at GolfStat.com and on Twitter at @AggieMensGolf.
