Women's Golf Leads By Nine At SEC Championship With Record 2nd Round

No. 13 Texas A&M shot a single-round tournament-record 277 (-11) to take a nine stroke lead at the 2015 SEC Women's Golf Championship at Greystone Golf and Country Club. Sophomore Bianca Fabrizio leads the tournament individually with a 137 (-7) after the second of three rounds.

HOOVER, Ala.- No.

"The girls played great today, rising to the challenge and taking advantage of the conditions with no wind," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "I am so proud of all of them and how they fought for every shot all the way through the round."

The Aggies, with a two-round total of 570 (-6), lead second-place South Carolina, who sits at 579 (+3) after two rounds, by nine strokes. Texas A&M leads third place Tennessee (584/+8) by 14 strokes.

The Aggies' 277 breaks the SEC Championship record, previously set at 278 by Georgia's second round in 1988 and Alabama's second round in 2010—both of whom would go on to win the SEC Championship and finish in the Top 3 nationally in those seasons.

A&M's 11-under par is the second-lowest team round (relative to par) in school history, trailing only the third round of the Alamo Invitational (-13) from October of this season. It is the lowest A&M team score for a single round in a conference championship.

Fabrizio shot a bogey-free 67 (-5) to move into the tournament lead, one shot ahead of Katelyn Dambaugh of South Carolina. Fabrizio is looking to become the fifth Aggie to win an individual conference championship, and first since Ashley Knoll in 2006.

"Bianca's bogey-free 67 was impressive," said McCombs. "She was so solid all day. I'm proud of her and how far she's come."

Freshman Maddie Szeryk also shot 67 (-5) on Saturday, marking the first time in SEC history that two teammates shot 67-or-better in the same round. Szeryk sits in fourth place in the tournament with a 140 (-4) after two rounds on the par 72 / 6,308 yard Legacy Course.

Marijosse Navarro shot a 71 (-1) in the second round to move her score to 145 (+1) for the tournament, good for a tie for 14th place. Thanya Pattamakijsakul shot an even-par 72, and is now tied for 25th with a 36-hole score of 148 (+4). Andrea Jonama rounded out the Aggies' lineup with a 78 (+6), and sits in a tie for 52nd at 156 (+12).

The Aggies will look for their first conference championship since 2010, and first since joining the SEC in 2012-13, in the tournament's final round, which starts on Sunday, April 19 at 10 a.m. in a shotgun start.
