BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Three Texas A&M women's golfers were named First Team All-SEC by the league office on Friday, marking the first time A&M has placed three on the conference first team since 2010. In addition, freshman Maddie Szeryk was named the league's Freshman of the Year.
SEC Individual Medalist Bianca Fabrizio, SEC Runner-Up Szeryk and Marijosse Navarro were all named to the SEC's First Team. This marks the first time since 2010 the Aggies have placed three on the all-conference first team, and the first time that all three first team members have been underclassmen.
Szeryk became the Aggies' first SEC Freshman of the Year, and the school's first conference freshman/newcomer of the year since Julia Boland in 2010. Szeryk was also named to the league's All-Freshman team. She is on pace to set the Texas A&M freshman scoring record and would rank second on A&M's all-time single-season list.
Navarro, a sophomore from Mexico City, Mexico, is on pace to break her own Texas A&M single-season stroke average record, currently holding a 71.29. Navarro has won two tournaments this spring and is currently competing in the second of two LPGA events she has qualified for this spring.
Fabrizio became the sixth Aggie, and the first since 2006, to win a conference individual championship with a tournament-record 207 (-9) at the SEC Championship. Her scoring average of 72.60 currently ranks fourth in school history, behind the current seasons of Navarro and Szeryk.
The Aggies take to the course again from May 7-9 for the NCAA San Antonio Regional, held at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
