COLLEGE STATION, Texas— A total of 65 Texas A&M student-athletes have earned degrees this semester as Commencement exercises are set to take place at Reed Arena beginning Thursday (May 14) and continuing through Saturday (May 16).
"I am extremely proud of these young people for taking advantage of an opportunity earn a degree from our outstanding university while also competing in a sport they love," Director of Athletics Eric Hyman said. "These student-athletes have put in a lot of time, effort and dedication to reach this goal. Everyone who has supported them throughout their lives is to be congratulated as well."Â
"Many of these student-athletes have not only excelled on the playing fields and in the classrooms, but also through their community outreach efforts," Hyman explained. "They are excellent role models and outstanding representatives of Texas A&M and Aggies everywhere."
Several student-athletes are still competing in conference play and various championships and will be unavailable to participate in Commencement ceremonies. Â Â Â Â
The Aggie baseball team is ranked in the Top 10 and closes out SEC play at Ole Miss beginning Thursday prior to the upcoming SEC and NCAA Tournaments.
The softball team is ranked in the Top 25 and will compete at the NCAA Norman Regional.
The Aggie men's outdoor track and field squad, currently ranked No. 1 in the country, is set to defend its title at the SEC Championships in Starkville, Miss. The women's outdoor track and field team also is ranked in the Top 10 and will be competing in the SEC Championships this weekend.
The men's and women's tennis teams are competing in the Round of 16 in the NCAA Championships in Waco this weekend. Both squads are ranked in the country's Top 10.
Two Aggie male golfers are competing in the NCAA Regional competition while the women's golf team qualified for the NCAA Championships after finishing fourth at the NCAA Regionals.
Texas A&M is tied with Florida for the most SEC championships (five) in the conference thus far in 2014-15.
