A&M's Matthews Named to Rimington Watch List

Texas A&M senior center Mike Matthews was one of 52 players named to the Spring "watch list" for the Rimington Trophy, which is given annually to Division I-A college football's most outstanding center.

Texas A&M senior center Mike Matthews was one of 52 players named to the Spring "watch list" for the Rimington Trophy, which is given annually to Division I-A college football's most outstanding center.
It is the second straight year that Matthews has been named to the prestigious list and he is the second Matthews brother to be named to the watch list, joining older brother, Kevin, who was a Rimington Trophy candidate for the Aggies in 2009.  Another brother, Jake, won the Southeastern Conference's Jacobs Blocking Trophy as a tackle for the Aggies in 2013 and was a first-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2014.
Matthews, from Missouri City, Texas, enters his senior season in 2015 with 23 career starts, which are the fourth-most on the team behind defensive end Julien Obioha, cornerback De'Vante Harris and offensive tackle Germain Ifedi. With Matthews providing protection for the SEC's top passing attack in 2014, the Aggies led the Southeastern Conference in passing yards (305.5 per game) and passing touchdowns (39).
