Gwangju City, South Korea --- 2015 NCAA 400 IM Champion Sarah Henry of Texas A&M grabbed a gold medal in the race at the World University Games on Saturday at the Nambu University International Aquatics Center.
Henry, a 2015 senior from Garner, N.C., used her trademark back-half finish to rally past much of the 400-meter IM field to win in 4:38.88. Henry trailed the leader by over two seconds after both the butterfly and backstroke legs and was .69 of second behind after the breaststroke leg, but scorched the final 100 freestyle in 1:02.98 to surge to the win over Barbora Zavadova of the Czech Republic (4:40.03) and U.S. teammate Hali Flickinger (4:40.54).
Also shining on the first day of WUGs swimming was Aggie freshman Lisa Bratton (Richland, Wash.), who finished first in her heats of the 200-meter backstroke preliminaries and semifinals to emerge as the top seed in Sunday's 200 back final. Bratton, A&M's school record holder in the race, was victorious in the prelims in 2:11.97 and grabbed the top seed with a time of 2:11.08 in the semis.
Rounding out the day's action involving Aggies was diver Cameron McLean (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada), who placed 18th in the men's three-meter springboard dive with a score of 294.55.
