Texas A&M senior defensive lineman Julien Obioha, a three-year starter for the Aggies on the gridiron, has been honored for his off-the-field exploits.

Obioha, from New Orleans, La., was among 197 nominees for the 2015 Allstate AFCA Goodworks Team and earned a spot on the Wuerffel Trophy watch list. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has recognized college football players from across the country who exemplifies a superior commitment to community service and volunteerism, while the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Obioha ranks as the team's most experienced in terms of starting assignments with 36 career starts entering the 2015 season. Also the team's leader in career tackles with 118, Obioha had his best season in 2014 with 47 tackles, including five tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He was involved in two of the Aggies' biggest defensive plays in 2014 -- teaming with Deshazor Everett to stuff Arkansas RB Jonathan Williams on 4th-and-1 in overtime against the Hogs and coming out of the pile with a recovered fumble in the fourth quarter against Auburn.

He is pursuing his bachelor's degree in university studies with an emphasis on architecture with double minors in business administration and mathematics. Obioha is active in Aggie Athletes Involved, which is a community service organization that is dedicated to getting Texas A&M athletes involved in the community. He has also volunteered at the Twin City Mission.
