WBB's Williams, Team USA, Begin Pan American Games On Thursday

The United States starts its quest for gold on Thursday, July 16 at 8 p.m. CT against Brazil, with coverage on ESPN3. ESPN2 has whip-around coverage of all sports of the Pan American Games on Thursday, with plans to show some of Team USA's opener in women's basketball.

Williams is joined by national player of the year Breanna Stewart (Connecticut) and SEC Player of the Year Tiffany Mitchell (South Carolina), along with fellow SEC players Alaina Coates (South Carolina) and Linnae Harper (Kentucky) to make up a roster filled with college talent. Iowa's Lisa Bluder is the head coach of the USA squad.

The USA is in Group A with Brazil, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The competition continues with semifinals on July 19 and the Bronze and Gold Medal Games on July 20.

Williams averaged 14.8 points and ranked second during SEC play in scoring last season with Texas A&M. The Houston, Texas native was a Second Team All-SEC selection and joined A&M's 1,000-point club during 2014-15. She is the first A&M women's basketball player to represent her country at the Pan American Games.
