TORONTO, Ontario- Texas A&M senior Courtney Williams and the United States defeated Cuba 65-64 in a thrilling Pan American Games women's basketball semifinal at the Ryerson Athletic Centre on Sunday. The United States advances to play Canada or Brazil in the Gold Medal Game at 7:45 p.m. CT on Monday.
The United States (4-0) trailed by as many as 14 points, but rallied to defeat Cuba (2-2) after Linnae Harper (Kentucky) sunk two free throws with seven seconds left to take a 65-64 lead, which would hold up as the winning score.
Williams and the USA returns to the court at 7:45 p.m. CT on Monday, July 20th for the Pan American Gold Medal Game, broadcast on ESPNU, and the WatchESPN app. The USA is going for its first Pan American gold in women's basketball since 2007.
