Szeryk Shoots 73 In First Round Of U.S. Women's Amateur

Texas A&M sophomore golfer Maddie Szeryk shot a 1-over 73 in the first round of the 115th U.S. Women's Amateur at the Portland Golf Club in Portland, Oregon.

Texas A&M sophomore golfer Maddie Szeryk shot a 1-over 73 in the first round of the 115th U.S. Women's Amateur at the Portland Golf Club in Portland, Oregon.

Szeryk's round was highlighted by a 2-under back nine, as she played the last nine holes of the course bogey-free, and carded birdies on No. 10 and No. 13 of the par 72/6,360 yard course.
Szeryk sits in a tie for 31st place after the round. After Tuesday's round, the Top 64 players begin match play on Wednesday, with the 36-hole final taking place on Sunday, Aug. 16. All rounds in match play will be televised on Fox Sports 1.

Szeryk, who is using Texas A&M assistant coach John McCombs as her caddie this week, tees off in the second of two match-play rounds at 2:10 PT/4:10 CT on Tuesday. The winner of the 2015 U.S. Women's Amateur receives automatic qualification into the 2016 U.S. Women's Open, provided she remains an amateur.
