BEIJING, China – Monday's morning session at the IAAF World Championships, held in the Bird's Nest stadium, included qualifying rounds for a pair of Aggies in the women's discus and men's long jump.

Aggie grad Fabrice Lapierre, representing Australia, started off group B in the long jump qualifying with a 26-4 ¼ (8.03) effort. In the next two rounds Lapierre recorded a foul. His only mark placed him eighth in his group and 11th overall with the top 12 advancing to the final. The long jump final will take place on Tuesday, August 25.

Texas A&M junior Shelbi Vaughan finished 14th overall in discus qualifying with the top 12 advancing to the final. Vaughan started off with a throw of 197-8 (60.24) and had a foul in round two.

When her third round attempt came up Vaughan was in 13th place and she recorded a mark of 188-3 (57.38). A throw of 199-2 (60.72) by Natalia Semenova of Ukraine was the 12th mark that advanced to the final.

The semifinal of the women's 400 hurdles will be held in the Monday evening session as Aggie sophomore Shamier Little competes in the second of three heats. The top two finishers in each heat and the next two fastest times will advance to the final.

Little will occupy lane 2 of the second heat, which will take place at 6:18 a.m. CT time, and races against a field that includes Jamaica's Kaleise Spencer, Sara Petersen of Denmark and Trinidad's Sparkle McKnight.
