COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M standout rookie Emily Bates was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week the league announced on Monday.

Bates was recognized following a week in which the Aggies tallied a pair of road wins, including a 2-1 victory at No. 10 Florida and a 3-1 triumph at Dayton.

The Melissa, Texas native's goal in the seventh minute against the Gators came on a header over the mitts of a leaping Florida goalkeeper at the penalty spot. It marked the second consecutive weekend that Bates scored the lid-lifter in a road match at a Top 10 opponent in Florida. She scored the opening goal at No. 5 Florida State the prior Friday.

On Sunday afternoon in Dayton, Bates served as the catalyst in A&M's first goal, slipping a perfect through ball to fellow freshman Brittany Crabtree who had no choice other than to score from six yards out.

Bates is the second Aggie to earn SEC Freshman of the Week recognition in 2015, joining Kate Hajdu who earned the recognition the opening week of the season.

On the season, Bates ranks second in the SEC with five assists and seventh with 11 points.

Texas A&M returns to action Friday when the Aggies host the Vanderbilt Commodores in a 6 pm action at Ellis Field.
