COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M men's tennis is set to open the fall season Friday with a quartet of Aggies suiting up at the Midland Fall Invitational in Midland, Texas. Juniors Frankie Colunga and James Martell along with freshman Oscar Janglin and Kevin Lam will represent the maroon and white at the event.
Janglin will face Jorge Escutin of New Mexico at 9 a.m. (CT) in the first round, while Colunga will face Carlos Arbiza (UTA) and Martell will take on Pablo Colvee (UTA) at the same time. Lam will begin at 10:30 a.m. (CT) against Brian Foley of Boise State. Lam and Martell will team up to take on Arbiza and Mario Muniesa of UTA at 4:30 p.m. (CT), while Colunga and Janglin will take on Henry Adams and Jason Proctor of Abilene Christian at the same time.
Colunga returns to Midland after advancing to the semifinals of the doubles draw a season ago alongside Max Lunkin. Martell, Janglin and Lam will be making their first appearance for Texas A&M in Midland. Colunga, a College Station native, returns for his third season under the guidance of head coach Steve Denton.
The Aggies return to the courts after a historic season which was capped off with a program-best fifth place ranking in the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. Texas A&M men's tennis finished in the top-10 for the sixth time after advancing to the Elite 8 for the second time in program history, falling to eventual National Champion Virginia in the national quarterfinals.
