COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M men's tennis picked up seven wins Friday at the Midland Fall Invitational in Midland, Texas. Juniors Frankie Colunga and James Martell along with freshman Oscar Janglin and Kevin Lam each tallied a win at the fall's first tournament.

Martell waited an entire year to represent the Aggies, redshirting last season after transferring from Tyler Junior College. The lefty wasted little time entering the win column picking up a pair of wins, defeating Pablo Colvee of Texas-Arlington in round one and Sam Baklini of New Mexico in the second round.

Colunga returns to Midland after advancing to the semifinals of the doubles draw a season ago alongside Max Lunkin. The College Station native picked up where he left off in Midland, advancing to Friday's third round through victories over Carlos Arbiza of Texas-Arlington and Greg Anderson of TCU.

Janglin picked up his first win in the maroon and white with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Jorge Escutin of New Mexico. The freshman suffered his first set back in round two, falling 6-2, 7-5 to Connor Curry of Texas Tech.

Janglin's fellow freshman, Kevin Lam, advanced to round two with a three-set triumph over Brian Foley of Boise State. The Irvine, California native also tasted defeat for the first time in his collegiate career, falling 6-1, 6-4 to Tommy Mylnikov of Texas Tech.

The Aggies split a pair of doubles matches on the day, Lam and Martell prevailed 6-3 over Carlos Arbiza and Mario Muniesa of Texas-Arlington, while Colunga and Janglin fell to Henry Adams and Jason Proctor of Abilene Christian.

"It was a good first day for the Aggies," Texas A&M men's tennis head coach Steve Denton said. "I was very happy for James Martell who had three solid performances in his debut. Frankie picked up a couple of good results and our freshman got their feet wet. The best part about it is Frankie and James get a chance to compete again tomorrow in singles. These preseason tournaments are invaluable to the success and confidence of our team."

The Aggies returned to the courts after a historic season which was capped off with a program-best fifth place ranking in the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. Texas A&M men's tennis finished in the top-10 for the sixth time after advancing to the Elite 8 for the second time in program history, falling to eventual National Champion Virginia in the national quarterfinals.
