COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men's tennis team opened up the 2015 Conference Challenge Friday with 15 victories over opponents from Illinois, Texas Tech and Harvard at the George P Mitchell Tennis Center.
Doubles matches went off without a hitch in the morning as two rounds of action was completed prior to rain moving into College Station. Senior Shane Vinsant and sophomore AJ Catanzariti picked up the Aggies first win over a ranked tandem this season defeating No. 37 Nicky Hu and Brian Yeung of Harvard. No. 35 Vinsant waited out the weather delay to claim a win over No. 42 Aron Hiltzik of Illinois Friday evening.
Nearly every Aggie picked up a doubles victory on the day as the Maroon and White clad tandems went 7-3 on the day. Juniors Frankie Colunga and James Martell, sophomore Arthur Rinderknech and freshman Kevin Lam all went a perfect 2-0 in doubles action.
No. 53 Rinderknech defeated No. 101 Hugo Dojas of Texas Tech to give the Aggies a pair of ranked singles wins Friday evening. Joining Rinderknech and Vinsant in the singles win column were sophomore Jordi Arconada, junior Max Lunkin, Lam, Martell and sophomore Jett Cash.
Teams will return to the courts at 11a.m. Saturday for a round of singles matches followed by another set of singles at 2:30 p.m.
