BOERNE, Texas – No. 11 Texas A&M looks to defend its team championship from a year ago at the Jim West Challenge at Tapatio Springs, hosted by Texas State from Oct. 4-6.

The Aggies, who lead the country in stroke average in the early going, finished second at the Schooner Fall Classic to open tournament season, then had a fifth-place showing, against many of the nation's very best teams, at the Annika Intercollegiate last week. The Aggies have already strung together three par-or-better rounds in five tries this season, which already ties for fourth on A&M's all-time list.

Texas A&M starts four of the top 17 golfers in the SEC at the Jim West Challenge, led by defending SEC Champion Bianca Fabrizio and defending SEC Runner-Up Maddie Szeryk, who are both tied for seventh with a 71.40 stroke average. Andrea Jonama ranks 12th in the league with a 72.00, and Thanya Pattamakijsakul ranks 17th at 72.20. Callie Scheffler, who shot 3-under at the Annika Intercollegiate, would rank fifth with a 71.00 stroke average, but does not have enough rounds to qualify.

Freshman Emily Campbell plays as an individual this week, rounding out the A&M contingent at the Tapatio Springs Resort, a par 72 / 6,373 yard course.

The Aggies' big run in 2014-15 started at the Jim West Challenge, as A&M shot an 886 (+22) in poor conditions to win the event, starting a run where the Aggies had either the team championship or individual champion in eight of their next nine events, including winning both honors at the 2015 SEC Championship.

Szeryk led the Aggies at the 2014 Jim West Challenge, finishing in second with an even-par 216. Two of her Aggie teammates, Fabrizio and Marijosse Navarro, finished in the top five as well, as the Aggies bested second-place Houston by six strokes.

This year's Jim West Challenge features nine teams who qualified for NCAA Regional play in 2015; Florida State, Houston, Kent State, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Rounding out the 13-team field is Illinois, Missouri, Texas State and UTSA.

The Aggies tee off starting at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday off of the first hole. Live scoring for the event is available via birdiefire here: https://www.birdiefire.com/tournament/14943/ .
