BOERNE, Texas- The No. 11 Texas A&M women's golf team is in second place heading into the third round of the Jim West Challenge at Tapatio Springs. The team shot a 285 (-3) for a second consecutive day, moving their total score for the tournament to 570 (-6).
"We had good rounds from everyone today, all the girls stayed in it all day," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "Callie Scheffler finished her round like a champ today with three birdies coming in. Thanya Pattamakijsakul came in strong with her short game."
Thanya Pattamakijsakul had the Aggies' best round of the day, shooting a 69 (-3) at the Tapatio Springs Resort, moving up to tie for seventh place with a two-round total of 141 (-3). Pattamakijsakul ended the round with six birdies.
Maddie Szeryk is in second place overall, one stroke behind Gabby Barker of Texas Tech for the tournament lead. Szeryk shot an even-par 72 on the day, and is 6-under for the tournament with a 138.
"It was quite fun to watch," added McCombs. "All-in-all, it was a good round. We are doing some really good things and want to just stay committed to what we're doing."
Bianca Fabrizio shot a 1-under 71, while Andrea Jonama and Callie Scheffler both shot a 1-over 73 on the par 72 / 6,373 yard course Monday. Emily Campbell, who is playing as an individual, finished the day with a 74 (+6).
Texas A&M now has five golfers in the top 25 of the tournament, with Szeryk in second, Pattamakijsakul tied for seventh, and Fabrizio and Scheffler in a tie for 19th at 146 (+2). Jonama checks in in a tie for 25th at 147 (+3).
This was Texas A&M's fifth par-or-better round in seven total rounds this season, which already ties for second on Texas A&M's single-season list.
Heading into the third and final round, Kent State leads the tournament, which has nine teams that qualified for NCAA Regionals in 2015, with a 10-under 566. Texas A&M maintains a two stroke lead over third-place Florida State and a five stroke lead over fourth-place Texas Tech.
