TULSA, Oklahoma – Texas A&M men's tennis split four doubles matches at the ITA All-American Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sophomore Jordi Arconada and junior Max Lunkin advanced to Wednesday's Qualifying Draw Round of 32.
Arconada and Lunkin defeated Jacob Herndon and Austin Robles of Arkansas in straight sets. The maroon and white duo will take on No. 56 Fedor Baev and Strong Kirchheimer of Northwestern Wednesday. The winner of that match will face Nick Crystal and Max de Vroome of USC and Andreas Bjerrehus and Joso Monteiro of Virginia Tech Wednesday afternoon.
The sophomore duo of AJ Catanzariti and Arthur Rinderknech were tasked with an extra match in the doubles Qualifying Draw, 18 matches were contested in the Round of 128. The A&M pair defeated Dominic Bechard and Or Ram Harel of Tulsa in three sets, 6-0, 2-6, 1-0(9) as they advanced to the Round of 64. The sensational sophomores were eliminated by No. 44 Dovydas Sakinis and Brendan Tannenbaum of Dartmouth. No. 27 Oscar Janglin and Shane Vinsant were eliminated from the draw with a three-set setback to Pablo Moreno and Giovani Samaha of Troy.
As the singles Qualifying Draw continues through Wednesday, the winners will advance to the Main Draw beginning on Thursday. A trio of Aggies, Catanzariti, Rinderknech and Vinsant, are awaiting the Main Draw to begin their singles participation. A season ago, then-freshman Catanzariti stormed through both pre-qualifying and qualifying to advance to the Main Draw en route to an impressive freshman campaign.
