The Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team was ranked No. 19 with a point total of 710.21 in the CollegeSwimming.com top 50 team ranking after its season-opening dual meet victory over Kentucky.
The Aggies were one of nine Southeastern Conference teams ranked among the top 25 teams. Joining A&M in the top 25 were No. 1 Florida, No. 2 Georgia, No. 4 Auburn, No. 6 Alabama, No. 10 Tennessee, No. 14 Kentucky and No. 18 South Carolina.
In the 155-145 win over the Wildcats, the Aggies won nine of 16 events with sophomores Brock Bonetti and Mauro Castillo winning a pair of individual races and freshman Sam Thornton sweeping the diving events. The Aggies also got victories from junior Jacob Gonzales and freshman Mateo Gonzalez, as well as from the 200-yard medley relay of Bonetti, Castillo, freshman Connor Long and Gonzales.
Earning SEC weekly honors due to their performances against Kentucky were Thornton and Gonzalez. Thornton was named SEC Diver of the Week while Gonzalez was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
