Aggies Battle Tough Conditions in Ireland

Waterville, Ireland – Battling windy and rainy conditions at Waterville Golf Links, the Texas A&M men's golf team climbed into second place on the leaderboard of the Jerry Murray/Waterville Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.

"Today was of the most difficult days of golf I've seen in my entire career," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "The wind was blowing between 30-40 miles per hour throughout the day with rain off and on coming down sideways. It was obviously tough out there with only four guys in the entire field breaking 80, but I was really proud of our guys for how they battled. They actually had a really good back nine to keep us in it."

Ireland's Maynooth University tops the six-team field at 37-over par with the Aggies (298-324=622, +46) nine shots back heading into Saturday's final round.

"Tomorrow is supposed to be windy again, but we're looking forward to the challenge," Higgins said. "We've got realize that with the conditions the way they are it's not as much about your score, it's about saving as many shots as possible."

The luck of the Irish was with sophomore Connor Black who highlighted the Aggies' efforts on Friday, collecting two birdies on the back nine to fire a team-low 78. Black owns 11th place on the individual leaderboard alongside teammate Andrew Paysse (76-80=156, +12).

"Connor Black played fantastic today," Higgins added. "It was a really solid round to shoot 78 in those conditions."

Two other Aggies own spots in the top 10 with freshman Max Miller (67-85=152, +8) tied for 3rd at eight-over par and senior Ben Crancer (72-81=153, +9) a shot back in 5th place.
