Aggie Softball Sweeps Doubleheader

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Softball team swept a doubleheader against Blinn Junior College Thursday evening at the Aggie Softball Complex. The Aggies bested the Buccaneers 12-0 in Thursday's lid-lifter before claiming an 11-0 win in the nightcap.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Softball team swept a doubleheader against Blinn Junior College Thursday evening at the Aggie Softball Complex. The Aggies bested the Buccaneers 12-0 in Thursday's lid-lifter before claiming an 11-0 win in the nightcap.
 
The maroon and white came out swinging in game one, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings before adding a run in the third and fourth inning. A&M tacked on a couple of insurance runs in the sixth to complete the scoring. Senior Cali Lanphear and sophomore Erica Russell bagged homeruns, Lanphear finished game one with four runs batted in while Russell went a perfect 3-for-3.
 
Sophomore Trinity Harrington donned an Aggie jersey for the first time on the mound after transferring to A&M from Colorado State. The right-hander went the distance, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out seven.  Every Aggie in the lineup finished game one with at least one hit, batting 15-for-33 (.455), earning five walks against just one strikeout.
 
The A&M lineup picked up right where it left off in game two following a thirty minute break in action, the maroon and white scored in every inning of game two. Senior Brea Dozier dazzled the Aggies in attendance with a trio of homeruns in three at-bats. Vidales tallied a pair of RBI with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth and sophomore Erin Houthoofd socked a dinger in the sixth.
 
Freshman Samantha Show also made her first appearance for A&M, going six innings. The East Bernard, Texas native struck out nine, allowed two hits and one walk. Sophomore Kayla Ober came on to throw the top of the seventh retiring the side in order with one strike out.
 
On the day, the Aggies finished with 28 hits on 64 at-bats (.438), tallying seven homeruns, seven doubles and two triples, scoring 23 runs. In addition to the impressive performance at the plate the maroon and white ran wild on the base paths, going a perfect five-for-five on stolen base attempts. A&M pitching held Blinn to five-for-48 (.104) at the plate, not allowing an extra-base hit over 14 innings of work.
