Aggie Trio Earns Academic All-District Recognition

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M Aggies had three players named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 7 Team for NCAA Division I Women's Soccer, CoSIDA announced on Thursday.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M Aggies had three players named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 7 Team for NCAA Division I Women's Soccer, CoSIDA announced on Thursday.

 

Senior Karlie Mueller, junior Grace Wright and sophomore McKayla Paulson all earned Academic All-District 7 Second Team accolades as Texas A&M was the only school in the district with more than two honorees. It was the first time earning academic all-district honors for all three of the defenders.

 

Mueller owns a cumulative grade-point average of 3.43, majoring in allied health. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota-native has started 17 of the Aggies' 18 games this season, logging seven points on one goal and five assists. She tallied her first career goal in the 109th minute of Texas A&M's 2-1 win against North Texas. For her career, she has 22 points on one goal and 20 assists, including a team-high 10 assists in 2013. She has twice been named SEC Defensive Player of the Week during her time in College Station. She ranks 16th in the country among active players with her 85 matches played.

 

Wright sports a 3.85 GPA, majoring in accounting. The College Station product has started all 18 matches on the backline for the Aggies, helping log eight shutouts, including a league-high five in SEC action. For her career, Wright has played in 56 matches, including 30 starts.

 

Paulson boasts a 4.00 GPA, majoring in English. The Mansfield, Texas-native is the only Aggie to play all 1,639 minutes this season. She has eight points on the year with three goals and two assists. For her career, Paulson has started 38 matches, logging nine points on three goals and three assists.

 

District 7 for NCAA Division I includes all schools in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.

 

The 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District ® Women's Soccer Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. All First-Team honorees advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America distinction.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
