Aggies down UIW Cardinals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 19-ranked Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team moved to 2-0 with a 174-114 win over Incarnate Word in dual meet action at the Student Recreation Natatorium on Friday evening.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 19-ranked Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team moved to 2-0 with a 174-114 win over Incarnate Word in dual meet action at the Student Recreation Natatorium on Friday evening.
 
The Aggies won 15 of 16 possible events against the Cardinals, including both relays and both diving events. Leading the way individually were five Aggies that were double winners on the night.
 
The Aggies opened the meet with a 10-second win in the 400-yard medley relay with the foursome of sophomore Brock Bonetti, sophomore Mauro Castillo, freshman Mateo Gonzalez and junior Jacob Gonzales touching in a time of 3:16.46. A&M closed out the night with a victory in the 200 free relay with the quartet of Gonzales, sophomore Justin Morey, junior Turker Ayar and freshman Steven Richardson finishing in 1:22.52.
 
Posting double individual victories for the Aggies were senior Mateo Muzek in the 200 free (1:40.67) and the 500 free (4:32.69), Bonetti in the 100 back (48.48) and 200 back (1:46.59), Castillo in the 100 breast (54.90) and 200 breast (1:58.46), freshman Mateo Gonzalez in the 200 butterfly (1:49.32) and 200 IM (1:50.33) and Gonzales in the 50 free (20.33) and 100 free (45.70).
 
Logging solo victories were freshman Sam Thornton in the one-meter dive (375.20), sophomore Tyler Henschel in the three-meter dive (386.55) and freshman Jose Martinez in the 100 fly (50.15). For the night, the Aggies swept at least top two spots in 10 events.
