College Station, Texas—Sophomore Alex Desiderio and junior Rachel Lucht have earned Southeastern Conference monthly honors for their October performances.
Â
Desiderio, the hunter seat rider out of Chester, N.J., was named SEC fences rider of the month after an undefeated October campaign, improving her record in the event to 2-1 on the season. Desiderio's first away win of the year came against New Mexico State when she provided a 77 to help her squad sweep the discipline 4-0. In the home opener against then No. 4 South Carolina, Desiderio was matched up with an 84, the Gamecocks highest score in the event. She provided an impressive 85 to take the point and MVP honors.
Â
Lucht, a College Station native, was named SEC horsemanship rider of the month one day after receiving the same designation from the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA). Lucht had the largest point spread of the Aggie horsemanship squad against both New Mexico State (72.5-65.5, 7 points) and Fresno State (74-71, 3 points), both away wins. At home against South Carolina she provided a career high 77.5 against a tough-to-beat 76, receiving MVP honors for the impressive performance. Her 77.5 is tied for a team second-best in the event this year.
Â
Both Desiderio and Lucht will join the rest of the No. 5 Texas A&M equestrian team to host the undefeated No. 2 Auburn Tigers on Friday, Nov. 6 at 11a.m. in the Hildebrand Equine Complex. The Aggies hope to improve their SEC record to 2-1.
