Texas A&M women's basketball program announced the signing of guard Aahliyah Jackson (Ft. Smith, Ark./Northside HS) to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Jackson, a 5-11 guard, joins the Aggie squad for the 2016-17 season.
Â
"We have been recruiting Aahliyah for three years, and are very happy that she has chosen to attend Texas A&M," said Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair. "She immediately became the best player in the state of Arkansas when she moved there a junior."
Â
"She can play on the block, or can play on the wing," added Blair. "She is very good inside and can shoot 3-pointers very well. She's going to fit into our program well."
Â
Jackson is rated as the No. 25 guard nationally in the 2016 recruiting class by ESPN HoopGurlz.
Â
Jackson averaged 16.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game as a junior for Northside High School, helping her squad to a 27-2 record. Jackson was named First Team All-Arkansas for her efforts.
Â
Prior to moving to Northside, Jackson scored 10.9 points with 8.2 rebounds as a sophomore at Edmond (Okla.) Santa Fe High School, the alma mater of Texas A&M senior Courtney Walker. Jackson was an All-Oklahoma selection as a sophomore.
Â
Jackson, who ran track in high school before focusing solely on basketball, played AAU Basketball for Texas Elite, who won two adidas National Championships.
Â
Jackson is also a member of National Honor Society.
