The Texas A&M women's tennis team concludes the fall season this weekend as several Aggies compete in the Rebel Invite at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas.
Â
The tournament features four eight-player singles flights and two eight-team doubles flights, with championship matches scheduled for Sunday.
Â
A&M juniors Rachel Pierson and Saska Gavrilovska will compete in singles. In addition, senior Ines Deheza and freshman Domenica Gonzalez will compete in singles and also pair up in doubles.
Â
Play gets underway Friday with Deheza and Gonzalez facing Blair Shankle and Elizabeth Profit of Baylor in the first round of the No. 1 doubles flight.
Â
Singles matches follow, with Pierson taking on Ana Batiri of Idaho in the No. 1 singles flight, and Gavrilovska facing Mimi Fotopoulos of Oklahoma in the No. 2 singles draw. Gonzalez will compete in the No. 3 singles draw, where she will meet Alexis Pereira of TCU in the opening round, and Deheza plays Celine Koets of Idaho in the first round of the No. 4 singles flight.
Â
Other teams represented in the three-day tournament are USC, LSU and UNLV.
Â
"We have had a successful fall season up to this point, and I hope that we can carry that momentum into the final tournament," A&M head coach Mark Weaver said. "Once again, we will be facing some very good competition against teams like LSU, Oklahoma, Baylor, USC and TCU just to name a few. It will be nice to see Rachel Pierson back in action after a four-week hiatus as she has been overcoming a mild injury. It is hard to believe that the fall season is already coming to an end, however I have been quite pleased with how it has all shaped out."
