COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior Cali Lanphear's home run in the fourth inning proved the difference as the Maroon team was victorious in game one of Texas A&M Softball's annual Maroon and White Scrimmage Tuesday afternoon at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Freshman Samantha Show picked up the win, throwing seven innings allowing four runs on 11 hits. The East Bernard native fanned eight batters against three walks. Taking the loss for the white team was sophomore Trinity Harrington, the Colorado State transfer allowed five runs on six hits. Harrington struck out five and walked four over six innings of work.
In addition to Lanphear's two-run homerun, the right fielder reached base on singles in the first and third inning. Maroon's sophomore catcher Ashley Walters singled and scored in the second, freshman Kaitlyn Alderink walked and scored in the third. Freshman Keeli Milligan and junior Reagan Boenker also scored for the Maroon team in the fourth.
The white team got on the board in the third inning as junior April Ryan singled and scored on a Hailey Rebar single. The designated visitors for game one struggled to scratch anything across until the top of the ninth. With two outs, senior Alex Masek singled, followed by another single from Ryan. Sophomore Tori Vidales made the score 5-4 as she deposited a home run to deep right field. Show closed out the game with a ground out to secure the win.
The Aggies will play game two of the series Wednesday afternoon at 4p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex. To learn more about Texas A&M softball, log on to 12thMan.com/softball and follow @AggieSoftball on Twitter.

On who impressed today…
"I was really excited seeing Cali Lanphear's play today. She went 3-for-3 at the plate. In addition to her consistency she hit the long ball. That was exciting, she was a real difference maker for the maroon team today."
On white's comeback attempt in the seventh…
"I thought they showed a lot of fight, especially since they did all of that with two outs. April (Ryan) has not been able to practice that much this fall, but went 3-for-4 today. She backed up a single from Alex (Masek) followed by the home run from Tori (Vidales)."
