Head coach Gary Blair looks for his 700th career win as the No. 10 Texas A&M women's basketball team heads to the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas, Nev. for a pair of ranked matchups this week, taking on No. 16 Cal and No. 11 Ohio State.
Bret Dark and Steve Miller bring radio listeners the action for both games, with Friday's contest against Cal broadcast on 1150 AM in Bryan-College Station and Saturday's game against Ohio State on 102.7 FM in Aggieland. Both games are also available to listen to on the internet at 12thman.com/showcase.
Additionally, both games are available for $9.95 per game through the tournament organizers at sporttourslive.net.
Blair, who is ninth among active coaches with 699 career wins, can become the 16th Division I head coach to reach the 700 win plateau. Blair is in his 31st year as a head coach; only six coaches—Geno Auriemma (Connecticut), Pat Summitt (Tennessee), Joe Foley (Little Rock), Jody Conradt (Texas), Andy Landers (Georgia) and Tara VanDerveer (Stanford) have accomplished the feat in fewer than 31 seasons.
To get the milestone in Vegas, Blair and the women's basketball team will have to topple a ranked foe. No. 16 Cal comes into Friday's 2 p.m. CT game 4-0, with a win over then-No. 8 Louisville on their resume. No. 11 Ohio State is on the docket for the Aggies on Saturday at 2 p.m., who is 2-2, but both of their losses have come to the two highest-ranked teams in the nation, No. 1 Connecticut and No. 2 South Carolina.
The Aggies have won all four of their games this season, including wins at No. 14 Duke and vs. TCU in the past week. For their efforts, the Aggies were named the women's basketball team of the week by NCAA.com, while Courtney Walker was honored with the espnW National Player of the Week and SEC Co-Player of the Week awards.
After this tournament, the Aggies' next contests are in Laie, Hawai'i against Hawai'i and BYU in the Tom Weston Invitational. Reed Arena next hosts the Aggies on Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. as SMU visits on Elementary School Day.
