Award is presented annually to college football’s top defensive lineman by TD Club of Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Texas A&M sophomore defensive end Myles Garrett was named the 2015 winner of the Bill Willis Award by the Touchdown Club of Columbus.
Named for the late Hall of Fame legend Bill Willis--who broke the color barrier for all African-Americans in both college (Ohio State) and professional football (Cleveland Browns)--the award is presented annually to college football's top defensive lineman. Garrett is the first student-athlete from the Southeastern Conference to win the Bill Willis Award, which was first presented in 1991.
Garrett is, arguably, the nation's most disruptive defensive player. Garrett leads the SEC with 11.5 QB sacks, 17.0 tackles for loss (tie) and five forced fumbles, and he ranks in the top five nationally in all three of those statistical categories. He also has 57 tackles, seven QB hurries, a blocked punt and an interception on his 2015 resume.
A 2015 midseason All-America pick by Sports Illustrated and CBSSports.com, Garret was a two-time SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week. He's a finalist for the Rotary Lombardi Award (top college lineman), was a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award (defensive player of the year) and a quarterfinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy and was on the watch lists for the Hendricks Award (top defensive end) and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (outstanding defender).
Other Aggies earning previous honors from the Touchdown Club of Columbus include:
Johnny Manziel
Male Athlete of the Year, 2012
Chic Harley Award, 2012
Archie Griffin Award, 2012
Luke Joeckel
Jim Parker Award, 2012
