Aggie Men's Golf Finishes 10th at SEC Championship
Apr 19, 2015 | Men's Golf
The Aggies (286-282-287=855) were seven-over during their final round at Sea Island Golf Club to finish the tournament at 15-over par while LSU claimed the league's title with a 13-under par showing. Vanderbilt (-10) and South Carolina (-10) shared runner-up honors while Alabama and Auburn tied for fourth place at seven-under to round out the top five on the leaderboard.
"Today was like a replay of the first two days of the tournament," A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We were playing pretty good golf and then coming down the stretch we hit some balls into the water and had some three putts. We didn't finish strong and those mistakes have haunted us all season. Even though we have worked hard to improve in all of those areas, it's just not sticking. Today was disappointing because even though there was only so far we could have climbed on the leaderboard, I think we could have gotten a couple spots higher."
Junior Adrià Arnaus (72-68-70=210, E) was the highest-finishing Aggie in the individual standings, shooting an even par 70 Sunday to check in at 22nd place. Fellow junior Ben Crancer (70-74-70=214, +4) also fired a 70 during the final round to move nine spots up the leaderboard to end play with a share of 36th.
"Ben and Adrià both played well today," Higgins added. "They were really solid. All the kids fought their butts off, but it just wasn't our week. We'll get back to the drawing board and work to get better."
Senior Greg Yates (71-67-74=212, +2) claimed a share of 27th place in the final standings while junior Andrew Lister (73-73-75=221, +11) and freshman Andrew Paysse (80-78-73=231, +21) finished in 59th and 69th places, respectively.
