BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southeastern Conference on Monday announced the Community Service Team for men's golf and Texas A&M was represented by junior Charlie Benell.
The SEC names a community service team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community through superior service efforts.
Benell, a junior finance major from Pacific Palisades, Calif., has worked with Aggies Can, raising money and collecting cans during the Holiday season, as well as with elementary school students on how to improve eating habits and to encourage exercise in the Aggies Move initiative. He is also active in the local Bryan/College Station community as a part of Big Event as well as being a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and Texas A&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The SEC also honored sophomore Aggie women's golfer Callie Scheffler on Monday as part of the SEC Women's Golf Community Service Team.
