
Courtney Williams Selected to Represent the USA at Pan American Games

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Texas A&M senior Courtney Williams was selected to represent the United States of America at the 2015 Pan American Games, USA Basketball announced today. This is Williams' first selection to a USA Basketball National Team.
"It's an honor," said Williams. "I just want to get that gold medal with some of the best players in the world."
The United States tips off the 2015 Pan American Games at 8 p.m. CT on July 16 against Brazil in Toronto's Ryerson Athletic Centre. The competition runs through the Gold Medal Game on July 20.
Williams averaged 14.8 points and ranked second during SEC play in scoring last season. The Houston, Texas native was a Second Team All-SEC selection and joined A&M's 1,000-point club during 2014-15. She is the first A&M women's basketball player to represent her country at the Pan American Games.
She is joined on the team by Sophie Brunner (Arizona State), Alaina Coates (South Carolina), Caroline Coyer (Villanova), Linnae Harper (Kentucky), Moriah Jefferson (Connecticut), Stephanie Mavunga (North Carolina), Tiffany Mitchell (South Carolina), Kelsey Plum (Washington), Taya Reimer (Notre Dame), Breanna Stewart (Connecticut) and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (Maryland)
The University of Iowa's Lisa Bluder leads the 2015 U.S. Pan American Women's Basketball Team, along with assistant coaches Michelle Clark-Heard of Western Kentucky University and Scott Rueck of Oregon State University.
To be selected to the squad, athletes must be U.S. Citizens who are full-time college students with eligibility remaining for the 2015-16. The team was selected out of 51 hopefuls who competed in three days' worth of trials at the US Olympic Center in Colorado Springs. The USA's squad for the 2015 World University Games in South Korea was also selected from this group.
