COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies had three players selected through the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft with the process concluding with rounds 11-40 on Wednesday.
Junior pitchers AJ Minter and Grayson Long and senior shortstop Blake Allemand were selected on the first two days of the draft.
Minter was the first Aggie to come off the board. The left-handed pitcher was the final selection Monday, picked the Atlanta Braves in the Competitive Balance Round B between the second and third rounds. He was taken 75th overall. Minter's selection was the earliest for an Aggie player since Tyler Naquin (15th) and Michael Wacha (19th) were selected in the first round of the 2012 draft.
Long was selected in the third round by the Los Angeles Angels with the 104th overall pick and the Milwaukee Brewers snapped up Blake Allemand in the fifth round with the 151st selection.
Minter's junior season was off to a magnificent start before being felled by a season-ending injury. The southpaw started four games on the mound, logging a 2-0 record with a 0.43 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 21.0 innings. For his career, Minter is 5-0 with a 2.01 ERA, two saves and 69 strikeouts in 58.1 innings of work.
Long was an All-SEC Second Team choice this season and ended his junior campaign with a 9-1 record. In 17 starts on the mound, the right-hander logged a 2.82 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 95.2 innings of work. He was a two-time SEC Pitcher of the Week honoree. For his career, Long is 19-5 with a 3.08 ERA and 199 strikeouts in 231.0 innings.
Allemand was the only Aggie to start all 64 games in 2015. He batted .339 with 60 runs, 14 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 40 RBI and seven stolen bases. Allemand finished his career ranked fourth on A&M's career list for games played with and 10th on the Aggie all-time hit list with 241. He ended his career with 148 runs, 29 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs and 105 RBI.
Four Aggie signees were also selected, including pitchers Ashe Russell and Beau Burrows in the first round. Russell was chosen 21st overall by the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers picked Burrows with the next pick. The Brewers picked pitcher Nash Walters in the third round with the 90th overall choice. The Miami Marlins tabbed pitcher Chris Paddack as the 236th player in the draft, selecting him in the eighth round.
