Aggies Host Abilene Christian in Sunday Showdown

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies return to Ellis Field Sunday for a 6 pm match against the Abilene Christian Wildcats.
It will be the first time the teams meet as Texas A&M (4-1-0) looks to get back in the win column after Friday night's 3-1 loss at No. 5 Florida State. The Aggies enter the match with an eight-game home win streak, including four matches in last season's NCAA Championship. In what has become a trademark of A&M teams, the Aggies are getting scoring from a wide array of players with seven players already notching goals on the season, including five players with multiple goals.

LONE STAR DOMINANCE
With their win in the opener at Rice, the Aggies improved to 22-0-5 (.907) mark against in-state rivals since 2008, including an 11-0-4 record against their former Big 12 Conference colleagues. This season, A&M is 1-0-0 against teams from Texas, toppling Rice 4-2 in the season opener. Last season, A&M went 2-0-0 against Lone Star foe, dropping Stephen F. Austin, 1-0, on August 24 and Houston Baptist, 5-0, in the NCAA Championship first round.
GUERRIERI NEARING 400-WIN PLATEAU
Texas A&M head coach G Guerrieri ranks among the leaders in winning percentage and victories among active Division I coaches. With a career record of 398-122-29 (.751), he ranks fifth in victories and winning percentage (minimum five years as a Division I head coach). Guerrieri ranks sixth all-time among NCAA Division I coaches in victories, trailing North Carolina's Anson Dorrance (783), Connecticut's Len Tsantiris (528), Florida's Becky Burleigh (439), Santa Clara's Jerry Smith (426) and Randy Waldrum (400), who left Notre Dame in 2014 to become head coach of the Houston Dash of the NWSL.
SUCCESSFUL SENIORS
Janae Cousineau, Kristi Leonard and Karlie Mueller represent one of the winningest active senior classes in the nation. The trio have enjoyed a record of 63-14-5 over their four years, the third-best win total in the nation. Florida State's seniors are 71-8-4, followed by Virginia 69-9-3. The Aggies' win total is tied with UCLA at 63-7-7.
LAST TIME OUT – AT NO. 5 FLORIDA STATE
Texas A&M suffered its first defeat of the season in a road match at No. 5 Florida State, 3-1. The Aggies led the defending national champion, 1-0, at the intermission with Emily Bates scoring a goal from 35 yards out in the 22nd minute. Texas A&M was unable to withstand a Florida State flurry midway through the second half with the Seminoles scoring three goals in a 10-mintue span, taking a 3-1 lead in the 77th minutes.

SCOUTING ABILENE CHRISTIAN
The Wildcats are 1-3-1 to start the season. After starting the season with losses at Arizona (4-0) and UTEP (1-0), ACU bounced back to post a 5-3 win against UTSA in Austin and a 0-0 draw versus UC Irvine in College Station. On Friday, Abilene Christian dropped a 3-0 decision to North Texas as they opened their new Elmer Gray Stadium. Five different Wildcats have accounted for their five goals on the year. Sophie Standifer leads the team with three points on one goal and one assist. Kelly Dombrowski has played 425 of 470 minutes in goal for ACU with a 2.12 goals-against average and one shutout.
Abilene Christian was 8-9-2 last season with a 5-4-2 Southland Conference mark. Baylee Mitchell is the leading scorer from a year ago when she logged seven goals. Dombrowski played 13 matches in goal in 2014 with 12 starts. She logged a 0.98 goals-against average and two shutouts.

The Aggies return just seven of 71 goals (9.9 percent) from last season. Janae Cousineau accounts for six of the returning goals and Haley Pounds notched one goal in 2014. Texas A&M returns 14 of 60 assists from last season. Karlie Mueller had the highest total among the returnees with five. Cousineau, Pounds, McKayla Paulson and Mikaela Harvey each notched two assists in 2014.
