Krajicek Advances at Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia – Former Texas A&M men's tennis All-American Austin Krajicek advanced to the second round of the Australian Open Sunday afternoon, defeating Di Wu of China in straight sets. The major tournament began Sunday and will run through January 31 at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia.

The major tournament began Sunday and will run through January 31 at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia.
 
The Bradenton, Florida native defeated Wu, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 in just under two hours of play. Krajicek is taking part in his second career Australian Open, having competed in the doubles bracket one year ago. The left-hander finished the match with 13 aces and won 84% (36/43) of his first serve points. The former All-American will face 7th-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan in Tuesday's second-round.
 
Krajicek is set compete in the doubles draw alongside fellow American Donald Young, the duo will face Mate Pavic of Croatia and Michael Venus of Australia. Krajicek enters the major ranked No. 84 in doubles and No. 103 in singles.
 
Texas A&M is one of only six NCAA schools to be represented in the Australian Open singles field; joining Wake Forest, Baylor, Illinois, USC and Georgia; and one of only four school to be represented in both the singles and doubles field in Melbourne; A&M, Baylor, Illinois and USC.
