Aggie Excellence: in Classrooms and Athletics

A Texas A&M record 306 student-athletes posted a 3.0 grade-point or better in the fall 2015 semester and 45 individuals representing 11 different teams earned a perfect 4.0.

COLLEGE STATION— A Texas A&M record 306 student-athletes posted a 3.0 grade-point or better in the fall 2015 semester and 45 individuals representing 11 different teams earned a perfect 4.0 as the Aggies continue to excel in the classrooms and on the various fields and areas of competition.

"Our Aggie student-athletes continue to amaze me," Jeff Guin, Texas A&M Associate Athletics Director for Academics, said. "I know we have some special young people but what is most impressive is their desire to achieve even more. We are certainly seeing that success in competition and in the classroom are not mutually exclusive."

"We had 29 undergraduate student-athletes earned their degree this past December and one football player also earned his master's degree," Guin said. "Eight of our athletic programs achieved a graduation success rate of 85 percent or higher and when the APR results are released later this spring, I expect high marks as well."

This fall the 2015 women's volleyball team won the SEC Championship. The soccer team reached the SEC Championship match and advanced in NCAA competition to the Elite Eight. Meanwhile, the men's and women's cross country teams hosted the SEC Championships. The Aggie men finished second as a team, the highest finish in school history. The Aggie football team reached its seventh straight bowl game.

Currently, eight programs are ranked among the country's Top 10 in their respective rankings. Men's basketball is among that group and has continued its upward trend academically finishing the fall semester with its second-highest GPA, along with 11 of 16 players earning Athletics Director Honor Roll accolades by posting a 3.0 or better.

The men's tennis team posted a combined 3.06 grade-point in the fall and begins the spring season ranked No. 5 while the softball team posted a team 3.27 grade point and the softball polls are due out very soon.
