Aggies in 5th After 36 Holes of Sea Best Invitational

Following 36 holes of competition on TPC at Sawgrass the Texas A&M men's golf team sits in fifth place at the 2015 Sea Best Invitational.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Following 36 holes of competition on TPC at Sawgrass the Texas A&M men's golf team sits in fifth place at the 2015 Sea Best Invitational.

Texas A&M (282-293=575, +15) opened the day with a first round of just two over par but came back to the pack slightly with a team score of +13 during the team's second turn on the course.

"We got off to a great start today, played aggressively with a lot of energy," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We kept the ball in play and had great looks at birdie. Unfortunately, we didn't maintain that pace and seemed to run out of gas later in the day. It was our first 36 hole day since April; I think we were a little rusty and probably just got tired. For the first day, we did some good things that we can build on. We just need to keep improving and to get mentally tougher and we could be a really good team."

Florida (265-278=543, -17) owns the top spot in the team standings after day one of the event with North Carolina (283-279-562, +2), Liberty (281-288=569, +9) and North Florida (281-293=574, +14).

Highlighting the Aggie lineup was senior Andrew Lister (69-71=140, E) who owns a share of eighth place on the individual leaderboard after carding an opening round of one-under.

Freshman Chandler Phillips (68-75=143, +3) owns a tie for 18th place as does sophomore Andrew Paysse (74-69=143, +3), who is competing in the event as an individual.

Senior Ben Crancer (75-72=147, +7) holds a share of 36th place, meanwhile, senior Adrià Arnaus (73-75=148, +8) and sophomore Cameron Champ (72-76=148, +8) are in 40th in the player standings.

The Aggies will conclude the event with the third and final round Tuesday morning, teeing off with golfers from Arkansas and North Florida beginning at 7:45 a.m. (CT). Live scoring and results can be found on golfstat.com as well as live updates via twitter at @aggiemensgolf.
